Harney Peak Fire Tower dominates the skyline of the Black Elk Wilderness in the Black Hills National Forest, and was built by the CCC during the period of 1935-1938. Men and mules hauled stones gathered from nearby French Creek along a three mile trail to the summit. The tower provides excellent panoramic views of the surrounding forests and Custer State Park This token is very popular online in the summer months when travel in South Dakota is unimpaired by harsh winter conditions.
