Official 40-page 1957 guidebook to the Statue of Liberty National Monument, Liberty Island, New York, printed more than 64 years ago. It measures 9″ x 6″ and includes descriptive text, photographs, artwork, and a full-page map. It was published in its Historical Handbook Series by the National Park Service, Washington, D.C., 1952 (Revised 1957). The Statue of Liberty, one of the world’s most famous symbols and a beacon of liberty for millions, had been proclaimed a national monument by Presidential proclamation in 1924. Thirty-two years later the island on which it stands was renamed Liberty Island by a joint resolution of Congress.
