Colonial Williamsburg is a living history museum and private foundation preserving a segment of Williamsburg, Virginia, whose mission statement declares: “That the future my learn from the past.” Costumes, modes of transport, buildings and artifacts are period correct to transport the visitor back in time to the American Revolution. This hard to find token depicts the Capitol building, built in time for the third elected Governor of the newly free state of Virginia to preside in. The first two Governors took office in the Governor’s Palace, home to seven prior Royal Governors of the Virginia Colony, and the first two elected Governors of the American State of Virginia. It was built by the British Crown to display the wealth, power and permanence of their Virginia Colony.
