Colonial Williamsburg is a living history museum and private foundation preserving a segment of Williamsburg, Virginia, whose mission statement declares: “That the future my learn from the past.” Costumes, modes of transport, buildings and artifacts are period correct to transport the visitor back in time to the American Revolution. This hard to find token depicts the Palace building, occupied by the seven prior Royal Governors of the Virginia Colony, and the first two elected Governors of the newly free American State of Virginia. It was built by the British Crown to display the wealth, power and permanence of their Virginia Colony. The reverse displays the Betsy Ross Flag with the thirteen original states arranged as a circle of stars against a blue ground in the upper left corner, flanked by the familiar red and white stripes across the body of the flag.
